Today it hosts important events, exhibitions and markets of all sort and it keeps being a strategic point for Perugia inhabitants thanks to the escalators which pass thorugh it, linking the the new town with the old one.
Events
Perugia not only offers arts and cultural activities but also…chocolate! Thanks to its popular chocolates Baci Perugina, the city is rich of chocolate shops where you can buy and taste a great variety of delicious home-made chocolates.
Among the most relevant events that take place in the city throughout the year, it is worth mentioning the Umbria Jazz Festival (at the beginning of July) and Eurochocolate (in October).
The former is one of the most important jazz music festival in Europe which, during its 10 years of activity, has hosted the best contemporary jazz musicians such as: Sting, Herbie Hancock and Keith Jarrett. The latter is a fundamental event for chocolate lovers: a chocolate themed week during which expositions of any sort and chocolate tastings liven up the streets.
